Medical and Science Grammar School PRIGO PRAGUE
The Medical and Science Grammar School PRIGO PRAGUE is a member of the PRIGO group, which is one of the strongest and most successful groups on the educational market in the Czech Republic. PRIGO schools have an irreplaceable position at all levels of the education system, from pre-school education to university studies, and in all their activities they are based on the unique certified educational approach PriorityGO. It is a combination of individualization of education, modern didactic methods and respecting the challenges of contemporary society. Within its framework, PRIGO schools focus not only on theoretical education, but especially on the success of graduates in later life. At the Grammar School PRIGO PRAGUE, in education and extracurricular activities, in accordance with the PriorityGO approach, we place emphasis on the development of our students’ critical thinking, internationalization and language education, new technologies and digitization, environmental education and an ethical approach to life or intergenerational exchange of experience and respect. The founder of the grammar school is the PRIGO University, which allows us to develop not only knowledge but also skills and competencies of our students that are a prerequisite for successful university studies. Our graduates are well prepared for that.
The Grammar School PRIGO PRAGUE provides education in the classes of a four-year grammar school. Our goal is to educate especially students who are interested in general high school education with extended scope of natural sciences and related disciplines. By a suitable choice of elective subjects, the students can then be further profiled towards medical, pharmaceutical or veterinary field, but also science and technical fields.
What after the grammar school?
Although the question “What then?” may seem premature, the opposite is true. The task of the grammar school is to prepare students primarily for further studies at the university. This task is crucial for us and our goal in this regard is to try to ensure that after graduating from our grammar school, our students have as many doors open for further study as possible. Therefore, we do not limit ourselves only to preparation for further studies at Czech universities, but also at foreign universities. How to do it?
- The basis is a foreign language – native speakers participate in teaching, we provide international mobility programmes and other elements of internationalization
- Out-of-school activity counts – we support students’ extracurricular activities, we contribute to their volunteer and charitable activities, ecological activities, meetings with personalities, including foreign ones, or debate clubs
- In is the one who is on-line – in teaching, we use top ICT, we prepare students for e-learning, work with information and database systems, and online communication, even in a foreign language
- Learning is a game and curiosity is valued – we rely on complex teaching methods that combine various elements of the didactic system, especially methods that develop students’ critical thinking and their natural desire for knowledge, methods of cooperative teaching and project teaching
- Who is ready is not surprised – we teach students how to learn effectively and how to be able to work with the acquired knowledge in further study and life
The essential and key task of our Grammar School is to provide our students with successful professional life through their education and preparation for the school-leaving exam or further studies at a university. The most important aspect, though, is to promote their balanced development through an appropriate combination of scholastic and extracurricular educational activities. You can find applicants for medical, veterinary or pharmaceutical branches among our students. We develop these students’ qualifications for further studies. Nonetheless, we respect general scope of high school education with emphasis on foreign languages and globalised environment. Our intention is to especially develop the talents and skills of our gifted students who are interested in studying humanities, aiming to find their appropriate specialisation, for which we employ our trained teachers and psychologists.
“The quality of each school is determined by the quality of its students. And the quality of the students is mostly determined by the erudition of their teachers.” We then value our teachers who form a stable and committed team. We focus on creating the conditions for the teaching staff, material support and personal development. This allows qualified teachers to be selected only from among the best high-school teachers through demanding selection procedures. Our teachers are regularly evaluated in terms of their professional competence, methods of transferring their knowledge and their social skills by the Grammar School´s management as well as the students themselves. The students’ results in the university entrance examinations and the school-leaving exams also constitute an important objective evaluation criterion.
Personal approach is one of the priorities of the PriorityGO concept that we apply to all our schools. Based on the interconnection within the group of PRIGO schools and because it covers all levels of education, we have a unique opportunity to offer our students being engaged in the new BuddyGO system, which moves the meaning of ‘personal approach’ to the next level. Targeted mentoring connects different levels of education in the group of PRIGO schools. This way, our students develop the today’s highly valued qualities, such as responsibility and activity on the mentor-side and easier integration on the mentoree-side.
New school, new environment, new schoolmates and new teachers – we take our personal approach really seriously. We’ll find a Buddy from a higher educational level for every student. Your Buddy will guide you through the school, give you a tip on interesting school events and become your team mate. Loneliness will never trouble you. You’ll make a successful team with your Buddy, and you may represent your school at various events. You’ll also be a team of two friends who help each other.
Mentoring at the Grammar School is especially important at the very beginning of studies, before the students find their way and create their own school social group. An experienced Buddy already knows the school system perfectly and is well informed about the school and extracurricular activities. New students can contact their Buddy, whose experience they can rely on during the difficult transition period. All they need to do is to write an e-mail or text on Messenger and so they always have exactly the information they need.

Since 2017 the school has been taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE: https://www.dofe.cz/). The programme’s goal is to support young people aged 14–24 in their comprehensive development of skills and abilities through long-term and regular activities in four interrelated areas: talent development, sports, volunteering and adventure expeditions at three levels. PRIGO collaborates with over 20 foreign schools from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, USA and China (click here). The international exchange of students and teachers makes one’s acquisition of skills faster. Our students’ education has therefore an international dimension. Both students and teachers are offered short-term and long-term study or work visits.
